Merajut double-knitting
What is double-knitting? From as early as the 19th century, and perhaps earlier, double-knitting has been practiced in Europe. As knitting developed in isolated communities around the globe, the term “double knitting” (as opposed to “double-knitting”) came to mean several things. Around the world today, double knitting or DK is a weight of yarn, the term referring to the thickness. In Nova Scotia, double knitting is merely a term for any two-color stranded knitting. People confusethe name with doubling — the practice of knitting your yarn doubled when you want a higher gauge in a particular fiber.
But double-knitting — the technique to which this book is dedicated — is not known by any other names that I have heard. In the most basic sense, it is the technique of hand-knitting two fabrics at once on the same set of needles.
